Tuzistra XR is a prescription extended-release oral suspension used for the temporary relief of cough and upper respiratory symptoms associated with allergies or the common cold in adults. It contains two active ingredients:

  • Codeine Polistirex – an opioid cough suppressant that helps reduce the urge to cough.
  • Chlorpheniramine Polistirex – an antihistamine that helps relieve sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and other allergy symptoms.

Available Dosage

Tuzistra XR is supplied as an extended-release oral suspension.

Each 5 mL contains:

  • Codeine Polistirex: 14.7 mg (equivalent to 20 mg codeine phosphate)
  • Chlorpheniramine Polistirex: 2.8 mg (equivalent to 4 mg chlorpheniramine maleate)

How Tuzistra XR Is Used

Recommended Adult Dose (18 Years and Older)

  • 10 mL by mouth every 12 hours as needed
  • Maximum dose: 20 mL in 24 hours (2 doses per day)

Administration Instructions

  • Take by mouth only.
  • Can be taken with or without food.
  • Use an accurate measuring device (oral syringe or dosing cup).
  • Do not use a household teaspoon.
  • Do not take more frequently than every 12 hours.
  • Do not increase the dose without medical advice.

Storage Instructions

Store Tuzistra XR:

  • At 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
  • Short-term temperature excursions between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F) are permitted.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed in a light-resistant container.
  • Store out of the reach of children.
  • Shake well before each use.
